We believe it is important that those participating in the Fellowship Network uphold the same core beliefs. We believe that the Scriptures are “God-breathed,” perfect in their original writing, without flaw or contradiction, and provide the only sure and steadfast basis for faith. As such, the Bible defines the fundamentals of faith, as described in Ephesians 4:4. These are: one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God. Every Christian must subscribe to them in order to guard the “unity of the spirit.”

One Body

This Body is the Body of Christ, the Church, which began on the Day of Pentecost and of which Christ is the Head. Each person who accepts Jesus Christ as his Lord and who believes God raised him from the dead is a member of his Body (Eph. 1:22 and 23; Rom. 10:9 and 10; Eph. 4:25).

One Spirit

This spirit is the gift of holy spirit that Jesus Christ first poured out on the Day of Pentecost, empowering Christians to do the same work that Christ did. This “holy spirit of promise” is given by the Lord Jesus to every person at the moment he is born again (Acts 2:33).

One Hope

This hope is the assurance of everlasting life, or life in the new age that Jesus Christ will usher in when he returns to the earth. Our hope includes being rewarded for the good works we have done as Christians (Col. 3:24) and living forever in “…the kingdom of his dear Son” (Col. 1:13 KJV) after Jesus Christ, “the Last Adam,” completely restores all that the First Adam lost (1 Cor. 15:24-27).

One Lord

This Lord is the Lord Jesus, the Christ, who was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and died as the payment for all men’s sin. After Jesus was in the grave for three days and three nights, God raised him from the dead and gave him a new body. Because of his perfect obedience on earth, all the way to the Cross, he was highly exalted to the position of Lord by God his Father (Acts 2:36; Phil. 2:8 and 9). This enabled him to function in many ways as God does because God has given Jesus all authority in heaven and on earth (Matt. 28:18). He is worthy that every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:10 and 11). The Christian’s daily walk of service to him means continually setting him apart as Lord (1 Pet. 3:15), seeking to submit to his direction and guidance as the Master of his life.

One Faith

This faith is trust in the essential truths of the Christian faith, most especially the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a fact secured by both historical argument and spiritual experience. Of all the so-called “religious leaders,” only Jesus Christ has been bodily raised from the dead unto immortality. All true faith is a response of trust when hearing of the promises of God in His Word (Rom. 10:17). The Lord Jesus Christ, the risen Savior, is the subject of God’s Word from Genesis through Revelation. By the grace of God, each Christian is justified by his faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice and will nevermore come into condemnation (Rom. 8:1).

One Baptism

This baptism is the baptism with holy spirit, promised by both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ, which replaced water baptism (Matt. 3:11; Acts 1:5). This holy spirit baptism first occurred on the Day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2:1-4, when the Lord Jesus poured out the gift of holy spirit for the first time (Acts 2:32 and 33). He continues to baptize each person at the moment of that individual’s New Birth. It is an inner immersion in holy spirit by which one becomes identified with the Lord Jesus. By this baptizing and identification, one’s old nature is crucified with Christ, and he becomes a new creation with the ability to walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:3-11).

One God

This God is the God of the Bible, the only true God (John 17:3), the Creator of the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1) and the Author of all life (Acts 17:25). He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:3) and the Father of each Christian (I Cor. 8:6). He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). He is the Almighty, Who has always been and Who always will be.
