In 2010 Spirit & Truth Fellowship is exploring the theme of “Building on the Firm Foundation,” so in this issue of The Sower we focus on Jesus Christ, the foundation of each individual Christian and the Church itself. With Christ as our foundation we will not fail, and the more we learn about him as our foundation, the more secure we will feel. This issue of The Sower also explores the various names and descriptions of Christ as the Messiah, as well as his role as the pillar and bulwark of truth for the Church. The more we know about Jesus, the clearer we will be on how to build our lives as Christians. God, as the owner of the building, has delivered to us the blueprint and specifications that He expects us as skilled tradespersons to follow. When we do our work of love and godly deeds we will be doing our part to erect a holy building that will endure.

God’s Word instructs the Body of Christ that we are “…not to give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing.” There are many ways that God’s people can get connected to one another, ranging from small meetings to large congregational events. In this issue of The Sower we look at how with others, we get to practice our faith by living love, bearing with one another, forgiving one another, bearing one another’s burdens and proving our faith genuine. Understanding that “The Church is People” and “Fellowship is Intimate Joint-participation” has profound implications about the way we meet and how we connect. As we move forward, let us all support one another by breaking any habits of not meeting and instead, resolve to get together regularly!

For many centuries women have traditionally been relegated to a background role in Christianity, and denied genuine access to lead or teach in the Church. This tradition is based in part upon verses in 1 Corinthians 14:34 and 35, and in part because of the cultural roles assigned to women. We examine this topic by reviewing the historical ways that God has worked with women in many powerful settings, as well as by presenting an in-depth look at the Scriptures. This issue will be an inspiration and a blessing to both men and women as we see the truth concerning The Role of Women in the Church.

This issue of The Sower vividly portrays the battle that rages when we attempt to fight the pride in our hearts with humility. Exposing the insidiousness of pride is fundamental to building healthy relationships and godly community, especially since pride’s very nature is to deceive those who are overtaken by it. Pride is epidemic today in our post-modern culture, especially in the United States. Even more sobering is the fact that the Body of Christ is not immune, but has indeed been infected with this serious problem. Pride is a posture of a person’s heart that lifts itself up to something other than God. Like poison in our system, it is not always apparent but produces damaging results. We trust that this issue of The Sower will be insightful and a blessing as we work to expose the pride in our hearts and endeavor to replace it with humility.

This issue of The Sower focuses on love. It is safe to say that love has inspired more human interest than any other subject. You would think that with all the attention love gets, we would all understand it very well, but that is not the case. In this issue we explore what love is, how it is a choice we can make, and how it is intertwined with our feelings as it flows out of our hearts. The love that God directs us to have is not a sentimental feeling or mere infatuation, rather it is a deep sense of devotion and it never fails. Jesus loved the unlovable, and he loved when he was not loved in return. That is our challenge—to love all the time. We believe this issue of The Sower will help you to be better at doing that.
