The following quote was shared by a Facebook friend of mine, (David Craley). It inspired me, and also reminded me that we can be tis kind of person.
“If Christianity is to receive rejuvenation it must be by other means than any now being used…There must appear a new type of preacher. The proper, ruler-of-the-synagogue type will never do. Neither will the priestly type who carries out his duties, takes his pay, and asks no questions, nor the smooth-talking pastoral type who knows how to make Christianity acceptable to everyone. All these have been tried and found wanting. Another kind of leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who had seen visions of God and heard a voice from the Throne. When he comes (and I pray there be not one but many), he will stand in flat contradiction to everything our smirking, smooth civilization holds dear. He will contradict, denounce, and protest in the name of God and will earn the hatred and opposition of a large segment of Christendom.” (A.W. Tozer, 1897–1963)
The kind of preacher Tozer is speaking about is the kind of person who is truly walking in the footsteps of Jesus. They will be like Moses, willing to confront the highest leaders of government. Someone like Joshua, a person who will get up and really lead God’s people. And they will be like Elijah, a man who confronted evil and called upon the powers of heaven to promote godliness. Like Paul, it is one who will pour out his life on the altar of sacrifice. We can all be that type of person because it is in our spiritual DNA!
