Acceptance: By Frank Rutkowski

Being accepted is something that every body wants.  Acceptance is the desire to feel that you are pleasing, are accepted for who you are— even,  just plain old “okay.”

We all seek to assuage the strong inner feeling of needing to be accepted and one of the problems is that this oftentimes leads us down the wrong paths. Sometimes the drive for acceptance shows up as a desire to belong, to be a part of something bigger than just us. When this desire is manifested in a godly way it prompts us to be part of healthy social groups and communities. But when it is pursued in ungodly ways, people participate with others in destructive ways, that is, in unhealthy groups or in other destructive behaviors. The driving force behind gang membership is not crime but the desire to belong and be accepted in a group.

Whenever you feel the heart pangs to be accepted we must remember that the reality is we are accepted by the One who really counts, God. We are members of His family and we are secure in His heart.  There is no greater acceptance than that!

Ephesians 1:6 (KJV)  “To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved.

It’s to His praise and glory that He made us accepted!
