Following the footsteps of Jesus can be a difficult task. We all have our personal issues and struggles, and then when we add on top of that problems we face with others and the stresses of life, it can be downright hard. What many forget is that Jesus promised us that he was going to give us a “helper.” In the Gospel of John there are almost three chapters devoted to his promise that Jesus was going to send his followers a helper. The Greek word “parakeltos” is translated as “Comforter (KJV), Counselor (NIV), and helper (REV).
When we don’t know what to do, the “helper” will show us the way (Matt. 10:26-27). We never have to worry about being alone because it will never leave us (John 14:16). The helper will guide us, bring things to our remembrance, teach us, and even help us do greater works than Jesus did (John 14 and 15). We don’t even have to be concerned with one of the most common fears people have, which is public speaking, because Jesus promised the helper will give us the words to say (Matt. 10:19,20). We do not have to walk this path by ourselves. We have a family that we can lean on a supernatural helper. It doesn’t get any better than that!
