Yesterday I tried to comfort a friend over the recent death of their child. And today I have been in touch with a number of others who have been dealing with some very difficult issues: car accidents, health problems, lack finances, jobs, family problems, and the list goes on. The reality is that at times life can just be really hard!

I find it comforting to know that even the Apostle Paul oftentimes experienced great difficulty. In his letter to the Corinthians he says that there was a time that was so hard that they even “despaired of life” itself, as if they were under a “death sentence” (2 Cor. 1:8). At times like this life feels like you are sitting on the edge of a cliff with no safe way to turn. This is when we must do what Paul did. We must learn to “rely not on ourselves, but on God, who raises the dead” (2 Cor. 1:9). After all, if God can raise the dead, then He can and will make a way where there seems to be no way. All we need to do is turn fully to Him.
