A few years ago I was confronted head on with a pretty humorous situation about my own heart and good deeds. Early one morning I was having some quiet time praying, asking the Lord to help me to be a bigger giver and of more service to others. Within seconds of praying that prayer my wife Lori called out from another room asking if I could come and help her with something. Without hesitation I called back to her, “In a minute honey…I’m busy praying.” Instantly I was confronted with the irony of the situation. Here I am praying that I want to help others, but I almost missed the very first opportunity because it is not on my terms. It was a great lesson that I have no doubt the Lord wanted me to learn that morning.

Jesus is clear, whatever we do for others, we do for him, and who among us would not stop what we were doing to help him in a time of need?

Matthew 25:34,40  “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance…I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
